If you’re wondering if there’s a growing pattern of humanitarianism and creativity in 2020 weddings, it’s not your imagination. Weddings have gotten cooler.
The wedding reception — with social distancing
It’s not unheard of for a couple to give up on wedding plans and just elope. But this couple wanted to stick it out, even if they didn’t get the initial wedding that they’d planned. Forty-eight hours before Washington D.C. locked down the locals, this couple had their ceremony, with guests sitting in a mainly empty church and following social distancing guidelines. Then they headed outside to have their first dance on a rainy street corner while cars (including those who would have been at their wedding reception) drove by honking their congratulations. They also hired a horn player to play their first song from across the street.

The wedding photos — with activism
Then there was the Philadelphia couple who’d just left City Hall after a wedding ceremony. They walked right outside into a Black Lives Matter protest.
According to 6ABC, the groom’s response was, “We all see this injustice. We all want to see this needle shift away from the status quo and … that made this day more memorable in ways.”
Although them not wearing masks made me a bit nervous, at least the mainly masked crowd kept their six-foot distance. And the photographs taken will be superb for their wedding album and for the history books.
