Unless you want Trump for another four years, give someone else a chance

I had no idea I was in my 50s until a Bernie Bro told me so. After I write this post, I’m going to send a reply all email letting all family and friends know that they really could’ve sent me a birthday card, text or a gift. Honestly, why would you ignore me for 12 years?

According to a Bernie Bro’s very well-researched tweet:

“Whether you like her or hate her, Hillary Clinton had 100 times more enthusiasm than Joe Biden does. There is no chance in hell Biden could defeat Donald Trump. People under 50 can’t stand him and they’re the people you need on the ground doing the work. #IDoNotLikeJoeBiden.” -via Twitter

Duly noted, Pat the Berner, who blocked me immediately after I tweeted a birthday cake in his comment section. Apparently I have done a terrible job of flipping my calendars. But there’s a funny thing that seemed to happen on Super Tuesday 2020. According to The New York Times, “Final exit polls showed Mr. Biden outperforming Mr. Sanders among black voters by 60% to 17%, a margin that most likely helped offset Mr. Sanders’ 45% to 24% advantage among Latino voters.”

Way to ignore black people’s political views in the Democratic party, Pat. That always goes over well, especially for people like me who have never said “can’t stand” and “Biden” in the same sentence. And this 25-year-old college student named Luis Pablo Martinez (from the NY Times post) is going to have a tough time when he finds out he’s also 50 and voted for Biden, too.

I keep seeing these strange declarations from Bernie Bros, and the most peculiar part is I saw them even when I voted for Senator Bernie Sanders in the 2016 presidential primaries. There are always these drastic assumptions going on about the rest of the world from their little bubble that I have somehow escaped. But being that I was apparently 46 in 2016, maybe that’s why. I may have been focused on getting a head start on joining the American Association of Retired Persons. Senior discounts, yeah buddy!

I also found out today, in my 50s, the following:

“90% of Berners went and voted for Hillary in 2016. AND YOU ALL SPENT 5 YEARS TRASHING THEM. I don’t think they’ll make the same mistake and vote for Joe Biden this time around. Bernie IS already the compromise candidate.” via Twitter

Well now, you sure showed us. I mean, even though I voted for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in November 2016 after voting for Sanders in the primaries, I clearly overlooked all this support instead of nonstop-mind-numbing whining. But there’s something that doesn’t quite add up about this 90% that Aria is tweeting about — besides an actual source. Brian Schaffner (via Cooperative Congressional Election Study) has confirmed that in the general election, less than 80% voted for Clinton, approximately 12% voted for Trump, and a little more than 10% voted for another candidate besides Trump or Clinton or didn’t vote at all. Sure does split the vote, doesn’t it?
